My drive into work each day is South Tulsa’s version of a NASCAR sprint race. Men driving their four-wheeled egos and women in their mobile-make-up stations fly around me with absolutely no regard for the yellow flag flying from my antenna. Today’s drive seemed like every other sprint until the pack was pulling out of turn number three; that is where one of Oklahoma’s finest, a Highway Patrolman, had set up his speed trap. My frustration came when the speeding sprinters decided that since they had been running about ten over that they should slow to ten under the posted speed limit. This situation obviously called for an audible so I obliged. The PG version went something like this: “If you know it is wrong, then why do you do it?”
That is when I was struck by an epiphany with nearly burning-bush emphasis: Why doesn’t Jesus set up speed traps or if you prefer ”sin traps”? It is so simple, if people over-react when just presented with a visual reminder of temporal punishment; how might they react to if Jesus was the cop sitting in his hemi-housing-heavenly cruiser with a sin-o-meter in his hands pointed at their/my life spinning out of control? Brilliant, right?
I know, as soon as a new sin-trap was set up it would be registered on a national sin-trap website and people would be alerted to it so they could temporarily stop sinning or avoid the area completely. But for the inadvertant casual back slider I think it would be a wake up call. There would probably be a lot of warnings issued and hopefully they would arouse those christians simply asleep at the wheel.

In my small hometown, there was once an open pothole in the road, large enough that it would have damaged you car to have hit it. The city delayed fixing it for a few weeks, during which time they simply parked one of their older police cars over it. That car sat there for 2 weeks, 24/7 with no one even inside, and yet you could watch cars slow down as they approached.
