“God is good, all is well.” That was the text message I sent to several prayer warrior friends recently after my wife’s biopsy reports came back as benign. It was intended as a message of joy declaring God’s goodness and love for those who are seeking Him. And it was just that until several days later when one of those warriors asked a poignant question: “What would your text have read if it wasn’t good news?”This question raised a few more. Would a negative report have negated the goodness of God? Would a negative reported have meant our prayers went unheard? Then the age old question, why does God answer some prayers and not others?
After wrestling with these questions here is what I believe: God is good and nothing can negate that. Our prayers are always heard, but not always answered according to our design nor in our time frame.
I did finally answer my friend’s original question. If all had not been well, I think, I hope, I pray I would have answered: All is not well, but we serve an awesome and faithful God.
Come to think of it, all isn’t well, but we do serve an awesome and faithful God!
